You may have seen our over-scale hurricane model previously, but we recently made a custom pair for a client with perforated metal covers.

The hurricanes rest on a metal base with a large, hand-blown glass shade around a single  candle.  They stand nearly 44″ off the ground overall.  Blowing a glass shade of this size and shape, to consistent diameters and quality is extremely difficult, but besides the skill-of-craft involved in making them,I just think they are super chic regardless.

The originals were made by my grandfather for the Duchess of Windsor in the 1950’s.  They were, however, made in solid brass and today our bases are typically made of wrought iron.  The originals also had perforated brass smoke-bell covers over the top.  We have not made the covers since the originals, but our client liked the idea so we came up with a version of the smoke-bell cover to match the current base style.  We are very happy with the results!
